Photo of mullein (verbascum thapsus) along the Columbine Canyon trail in the Carson National Forest. Note water droplets on the leaves from previous day rain. The plant is very furry and water sticks to these hairs. Native peoples and settlers used mullein for a variety of purposes including filing the spent bloom stock with oil to form a torch. Photo taken 15 July 2004.
